hi, new.....just wanted to say something for many years, so here i am doing just that....
am 76 now, and i look back on my life and have to say, that no fantasy or sci fi novel has affected me so deeply  as terry's sword of truth series, which i devoured as they came out.....if i was allowed to read only one fantasy novel in a lifetime ...that would be it.......
it almost has been like a bible to me, and has been influential in guiding my path throughout all these most grateful to terry for having been born and sharing his deeply sanctified soul with us.....
    god bless..............                                             vic
Anders and Anderith- United States of America. Obvious
Bertrand and Hildemara Chanboor- Bill and Hillary Clinton. Obvious...even the initials are the same.
Imperial Order-Adherents to Socialism(not so obvious. Also has elements of communism)
Dominie Dirtch- Nuclear Weapons and over reliance on same
Richard/Kahlan/D'Haran Empire- Benevolent Dictatorship

As the US was headed towards the utter failure that is Socialism(and the hundreds of times it has been tried) it wouldn't register with people now as we've curved away from it with the election of Trump. No, he's no Richard, he's just a step away from Socialism and the sheer horror the US was in for.

For years, those of us who want Democracy and Capitalism know it's not perfect, it's just the best so far(which means we need to keep trying). Whenever Democracy was threatened a dictator would come along and set things right, but would often not know when to step down. With the way our Democracy works, we will never have that dictator to set things right. Never. Therefore, Richard/Kahlan/D'haran Empire is just a fantasy those like me dreamed of. (which makes it belong in a fantasy novel, right)

Democrats should have realized their mistake, but they haven't at all and still adhere to Socialism, championing Bernie Sanders. I'm sorry, he will only make it worse. What they should be doing is adapting their party to better reflect what all Americans want, not just the celebrities and their ill informed views. It will probably have to take Trump winning another term for them to wake up if even that will do it.

Those of you who have read so far will note that I haven't placed Dalton Campbell yet...That's because I just don't know. Everyone in politics, right or left, are so devoid of character that I can't feature one equaling Dalton. Not a single one. They're preening peacocks without an ounce of self awareness...and Dalton is certainly self aware to an extent. Since I can't place him, I simply place him as a man not aware of his own power and the evil he was representing. It didn't register to him as a totally bad thing as ambition was his sole reasoning. Once his ambition was reached, he could then step back and see what he had wrought...brought to him by his own wife, and the terrible tragedy of Franca Gowenlock. Everything he did it for was brought down showing him the naked truth of what he had done.

The Anders and Anderith being the USA will make you realize it more if you reread this book. The using of children to further political goals should at least register to some of you. Anderith was a land of plenty in terms of food...and nobody seems to realize that is what the US has in abundance, places to grow food. In fact, that is the chief reason so many countries are jealous. We have the most arable land in the entire world...all the rest of it put together isn't even half what we have.

Dalton's Messengers were easy to figure out...they represent the media...The town criers, the speakers etc. Controlling that message is what the left has done for many, many years. It's become so rampant it's even starting to work against them as people realize that the media has been lying and misrepresenting things for decades.

The real(non fantasy) evils of Socialism are there for all to see if they only look. It has never worked...anywhere for any length of time. It starts as utter failure and only gets worse as it goes along and becomes an endless blaming of "before Socialism" to shore it up. Look at Venezuela and Brazil of today for prime examples. There are literally people eating rats to survive there.

The chimes, the wizards and all that are the fantasy element. They represent magic as seen in fantasy books since Tolkein. Don't try to equate them into the rest of the things I've explained as they don't fit as we don't really have magic.

I have a proof copy of Law of Nines, it's paper back and rather crudely bound. Does that help? First editions are hard bound.

The Denna part plays a huge role in how Richard solves future problems in the series. Also, it shows how sick and twisted Darken Rahl is. You need to read the the whole series to put that one piece into perspective.

Hi all, I'm from Utah and used the old forums frequently. The last time I checked Terry's website it was still under construction. I have read TSOT series several times and have met Terry several times. I'm a retired nurse, married and have two adult sons.

Hey. So I just finished Wizard's first rule  and overall I found it entertaining but there were some things I just did not understand. There was a good portion of the book (80 pages??) where Richard gets captured by Denna, with some extremely twisted torture and rape described in almost pornographic detail which was frankly difficult to read through.

Most of the time when i read books and they have extreme scenes like this it is so serve a purpose. In this book however, i felt like it was just pointless. Why does Terry Goodkind feel the need to put us through chapters and chapters of endless torture?

If an unpleasant idea is presented over and over and its effects on the characters are profound, I'll buy that the author's exploring a theme. But if it's presented over and over and there are never real repercussions (or in the case of forced kidnapping, torture, and prolonged sexual abuse, intense psychological trauma), it comes off as a sort of fetish. Now I'm not saying Goodkind's a rapist or enjoys torture or anything like that, but I do think in this case we can learn a lot about the author's personal tastes from what he's chosen to write.

As I said, I really liked the book - the characters and this fantasy universe is amazing and deeply interesting, and for that reason, I'm very dissapointed that the whole SM/torture thing threw me off as much as it did. (I'm afraid that it's especially the sexual undertones that threw me off?) Consequently, I've gone from completely hooked to having almost no desire or interest in reading on.

I don't want to feel like that. I feel these books have great potential - I want to like them, I do like them. Just not the Denna-part. Unfortunately, it left such a bad taste in my mouth, that it warped my view of the whole thing.

So I'm begging of you guys: Please, can you help me change my opinion? The last 200 pages (from Denna was introduced) I read rather lightly. I will very likely have missed the points or subtext of all this. Please help me understand and appreciate these scenes, if possible.

I know I am extremely late to this party, but thought I would add my opinion. I believe it was Zedd. After reading through this entire thread, no theorized that Zedd was the only one in the room with the authority to override The Mother Confessor, after she gave Harold a day to leave. He has the authority, as the First Wizard, To order the execution.  I also postulate that Zedd killed Harold out of duty, as First Wizard, for Treason. He wasn't being emotional, he was being rational. I believe that Adie, Verna and Warren would all have deferred to his leadership. During the war, he led the gifted. The other three acted in the role of Lieutenants, and advisers, but Zedd was their General. I also don't think Warren, Verna, or Adie would have done it without express consent of Kahlan. Without Richard, She has almost absolute power as Mother Confessor, but Zedd as First Wizard is seemingly equal to a The Mother Confessor, although he has very little power in matters of rule and politics. A Check on the Confessors power.

The First Confessor / Question about an inconsistency
« Last post by RobBrochu on December 29, 2016, 02:43:46 PM »
I'm at the point where Lothain told Magda that she is to be his bride. We are told in the series that it takes both sides to travel in the sliph. In Phantoms Richard is expelled because he no longer has the gift at all. The sliph tells Richard that Magda traveled in her to the night wisps before Barracus commits suicide. In The First Confessor Magda is ungifted. How is this possible?
Warheart / Re: Nice Comeback

I'm in complete agreement. I'm so happy that it "ended" the way it did. However, now I'm seeing that TG is beginning a new series (Nicci Chronicles) that will pick up where he left off with Warheart and will be primarily based around a new story line involving Nicci and Nathan. I'm excited for that, but even more for the prospect of some side stories that will tell us about the lives of R&K and all the characters living at the wizard's keep now that all of the trouble has seemingly ended :). I would really like to see R&K have a baby and for Nicci to find love. I'd also love to see the new beginning and the dawning of the golden age and how it effects the gifted, maybe a rebirth of how it used to be at the keep, what he hinted at in the end of Confessor, tons of sorceresses and wizards and families all living and learning in the keep, a repopulation of Adindryl, etc.I just can't wait.
